What’s your design style? In this series, we will explore several common design styles. Follow along and become inspired as you learn. Keep in mind that well-balanced homes often incorporate multiple, overlapping design styles.

Rugged?  Outdoorsy? Natural beauty?  If these fit you, then the rustic design style might be for you!  Often wood beams, cozy natural textiles and antiqued furniture fill the space creating a charming, warm environment.  Maybe you like rustic, but not too rustic?  Rustic Chic design might be for you.  Or you can see how Modern Farmhouse incorporates some rustic style characteristics.  This is where overlapping design styles can be fun.

VISUAL CUES:

  1. Rough, exposed wood (beams and timbers, handrails, barn doors)
  2. Hand-made accessories (baskets, pottery, quilts)
  3. Aged and weathered finishes (antique patinas, seeded glass, etc.)
  4. Earth tone color palette
  5. Heavy texture, simple patterned textiles
  6. Re-purposed objects and artifacts
  7. Hammered metals and iron
